Walking projects
Our walking improvements map will help you find out more about current projects we are funding to improve the walking environment across London, including:
- The world squares project, eg. Trafalgar Square
- The completion and promotion of six strategic walking routes together with riverside and canal paths
- Opening up or renovating railway arches and providing new accessible footbridges across railways and surface level crossing facilities
- Providing new crossing facilities such as zebra, pelican or puffin crossings and pedestrian phases at signalised junctions
- The development of best practice guidance on monitoring the pedestrian environment
- Programme of improvements to make the street environment more accessible by removing barriers and obstructions that make it difficult or unsafe for pedestrians
- Involvement in projects and schemes on roads and public spaces such as A205 Thurlow Park Road, A406 Bounds Green, and Gants Hill.
Walking events
We actively promote walking events to encourage people to see the Capital on foot. As well as being a healthy way to explore London, often the events help raise money for various charities.
