Green Park
Several improvements are already in place, including:
- Three new lifts that provide step-free access from street level to all platforms and between all three lines serving the station - the station is now fully step-free
- An enlarged station entrance
- A new ramped walkway directly into Green Park
Over the coming months we are installing platform humps to provide level access on the Jubilee and Piccadilly lines similar to those already installed on the Victoria line platforms.
We are currently undertaking work in the park and the station to help regulate the temperature on the Piccadilly and Victoria line platforms. The system uses borehole water technology for cooling and is designed to use less energy than conventional cooling systems.
Other new features
We have modernised the station with:
- Additional CCTV cameras to provide almost complete station coverage
- New customer Help points around the station
- Improved access from tactile strips on platforms/stairs and contrasting handrails
- New station lighting
- A new public address system
- New electronic information displays in the ticket hall and on all platforms
Street-level improvements
We are also working with Westminster City and The Royal Parks to improve areas at street level. This includes access to the station and Green Park by creating a new sheltered area running along Piccadilly, and a new entrance to the Tube station direct from the park.
The station exit which allows access to the City of Westminster public toilets has been improved. And at street level a new area has been created for the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme, though this has been temporarily hoarded off to facilitate the cooling the tube works.
Park improvements
Landscaping enhancements to the Ritz corner of Green Park include:
- Restoration and relocation of the Constance Fountain
- A green wall on the new ramp to integrate the station with the park
- Improved contouring of the park land to reduce the visual impact of station structure
- A new area of wildflower grassland to attract native wildlife including bees, butterflies and birds
