Transport for London

Croxley Rail Link

Tube at platform We are working with Hertfordshire County Council to re-route and extend the Metropolitan line to Watford Junction.

The extension would improve transport links and increase employment opportunities in the Watford area.

Proposed changes

The Metropolitan line extension would serve Watford Junction and Watford High Street stations.

Trains would run to central London every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes at other times.

If the project goes ahead, Watford station would be closed, with new stations at Ascot Road and Watford Hospital in its place.

Next steps

In partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, we applied for a Transport and Works Act Order from the Secretary of State for Transport in January 2012. This is required before any work can start.

If the application is successful, construction will begin in 2014 and the extension would be open by 2016.

If you have any comments on the proposal to close Watford station, please send them to London TravelWatch by no later than 13 April 2012:
