So that the Blackwall Tunnel improvement programme is completed as quickly as possible, with the minimum disruption to road users, work will be carried out between 21:00 and 05:00, Sunday to Thursday.
Traffic changes
When we are working on the tunnel, southbound traffic will be diverted to alternative river crossings. A 20mph speed limit, enforced by average-speed cameras, will be in place on the diversion which includes chicanes.Road signs and signals
We are warning tunnel users of closures with our network of variable message signs on the tunnel approaches and other parts of the road network. Further signage is being displayed on the main approaches from the M25. We are working with the Highways Agency so that messages are displayed on their signs.
Bus route 108
There will be no late evening service on route 108 through Blackwall Tunnel between 21:00 and 01:00 on Monday to Thursday nights, or between 21:00 and 24:00 on Sunday nights.
During these times route 108 will run in two sections:
- Stratford to Canning Town (via Poplar)
- North Greenwich to Lewisham (via Blackheath)

- The last through bus from Lewisham will be 20:27 (20:34 on Sunday)
- The last through bus from Stratford will be 20:31
- There will be no connection across the river towards Lewisham between 00:15 and 00:45
Last connection times
Buses will run normally on Friday and Saturday nights.
You can use your bus tickets on the Jubilee line between North Greenwich and Canning Town while the tunnel is closed.
