Community Safety strategy and plans
The Right Direction
The Right Direction is the Mayor's three-year strategy to improve transport safety and security in the Capital.
Produced by the London Transport Community Safety Partnership (LTCSP), the strategy sets the strategic framework for how members of the partnership will work together to tackle transport-related crime, antisocial behaviour and fear of crime.
The strategy aims are to make everyone feel safer and more confident while they travel around London, whether they travel by train, tram, Tube, bus, bike, car, boat or walking.
Community Safety Plan
Our Community Safety Plan for transport and travelling in London outlines how we intend to further improve safety and security on London's transport network.
The Community Safety Plan is produced by the Directorate of Community Safety, Enforcement and Policing with our partners - the British Transport Police, City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police.
Priorities and approach
The plan identifies four main priorities:
- Improving the perception of safety and security
- Reducing antisocial behaviour
- Reducing priority crime including violent crime, hate crime, criminal damage, touting and theft
- Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured in collisions on London's roads as a result of from crime or antisocial behaviour
To tackle the main priorities, the plan has set a five-point approach:
- Enforcement of the law and transport regulations to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour
- Education including work in schools, media and public awareness
- Engagement, for example uniformed officers in local policing teams engaging with passengers and staff to fully understand and address their concerns
- Environment including measures such as CCTV and lighting to help design out crime
- Evaluation to assess the impact of all activities and learn from what we do
