Inspections
Annual inspections
About 30 days before your annual inspection is due, Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) will contact you.
SGS will follow the guidelines found in the Taxi Vehicle Inspection Manual (PDF 444KB).
This includes updates on the inspection of wheelchair ramps for taxis (see section L2).
If your taxi passes, you won't need an MOT.
If it fails, you'll be given a fail notice and you'll need to have it inspected again to confirm repair work has been done.
Inspection centres
SGS inspection centres are located in:
- Deptford
- Hanworth
- Tottenham
To arrange an inspection, please call SGS on 0845 378 2345.
On-street inspections
TfL taxi examiners may carry out an inspection of your taxi in the street.
If your taxi fails, you will be issued with an 'Unfit' notice and won't be able to use your vehicle as a licensed taxi. If this happens you should:
- Get all necessary repairs done
- Telephone SGS and make an appointment to have your repairs checked
If SGS is satisfied with the repairs, your Unfit status will be removed and you can start working again immediately.
